The new moon is a dark phase that brings with it the hope of a new beginning. It says, "You can't see me now, but I exist... And I am ready to step out and to live and shine brightly!"

Let's talk and shed a little light on what is making you feel anxious, stuck, frustrated, alone, sad, or unfulfilled.  It would be my pleasure to help you discover a way through that best suits you and that was always within you.

Couples Therapy

When working with couples, I draw upon techniques utilized in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, while at the same time taking a Solutions Focused approach, in which we visualize and explore the couple that you want and hope to be.  I also believe that each individual in the couple must have a strong sense of self and individuality in order to be able to engage in a healthy intimate relationship and as such, I may see the couple together and individually as we determine to be appropriate.

Family Therapy

In my work with families, I focus on the phase of life that the family is in and consider how the family is adjusting to the transition from one phase to another.  In some cases, families are facing divorce, in others illness or loss, and in others changing roles as the family grows and evolves.  It is my first priority to get to know everyone in the family and understand their important roles and the gifts that each member brings to the family.  I enjoy engaging family in play to build connection, trust, and better communication.  Family therapy is suited for all types of families with children of all ages.

Individual Therapy

I enjoy working with individuals who are working on life transitions, experiencing grief, exploring their identity, dealing with anxiety and depression, facing complicated PTSD, coming to terms with generational trauma, and processing spiritual trauma.  I draw from a variety of theoretical orientations, such as, Bowenien Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solutions Focused Therapy.  However, most importantly, I collaborate with you to find the best approach to facing your unique challenge that suits you and facilitates the growth and change that you desire.

About Me

Hello!  My name is Sara Malnati.  As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating relationship difficulties, life transitions, anxiety, family conflict, and experiences that may be affecting them in ways they don't yet fully understand. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what's wrong or what you need from therapy. Sometimes figuring that out is part of the work.

My approach is collaborative, person-centered, and curious. I won't tell you who you should be or hand you a predetermined solution. Instead, we'll work together to understand your experiences, identify patterns that may no longer be serving you, and discover new ways of relating to yourself and the people around you.

I have a particular interest in trauma and am an EMDR trained therapist. Sometimes people carry experiences that have shaped them deeply without ever thinking of those experiences as "trauma." You don't have to use that word—or even recognize your experiences that way—for us to explore how your past may be influencing your present.

Therapy is an act of bravery. You don't have to know exactly where you're going before you take the first step. Sometimes the moon is there even when we can't see it yet.

My hope is that, together, we can begin to make visible what has been difficult to see and find a path forward that feels authentically yours.

Therapy is available in English and French.
